Degenerative Disc Disease
What is a Degenerative Disc Disease aka Discopathy?
Degenerative Disc Disease is an age-related condition that happens when one or more of the discs between the vertebrae of the spinal column deteriorates or breaks down. It is one of the most common causes of low back and neck pain and often misunderstood.
Reasons for Degenerative Disc Disease
Simply put, degenerative disc disease refers to symptoms of back or neck pain caused by wear-and-tear on a spinal disc. The rubbery discs between the vertebrae normally allow for flexing and bending of the back, like shock absorbers. As they become worn the protection diminishes.
Who suffers from this condition?
Despite its name, degenerative disc disease is not a disease, but a natural occurrence that comes with aging.
What are the symptoms of Degenerative Disc Disease?
Common complaints related can be weakness, numbness, and hot, shooting pains in the arms or legs also called radicular pain. Low-level chronic pain is typical with intermittent episodes of more severe pain.
